About a month before the 6th grade dance (Another thing any 12-year-old girl would be ecstatic about) I started to feel like I was getting the flu. And the week before the dance, a lymph node on one side of my neck swelled up to the size of a golf ball. Being that I was already incredibly scrawny and awkward, I looked like I was dying, and got pitiful stares everywhere I went. It was terrible! Afraid that I had a tumor, my mother took me to the doctor, where after blood work, was diagnosed with Cat Scratch Fever. My mom loves Ted Nugent, so she immediately broke into song after the diagnosis. I didn’t really get the joke. Apparently, Cat Scratch Fever is a bacterial infection transmitted by cat scratches and bites. So after finding that out, I was concerned about the kitten. Luckily, we had cat insurance and were able to take her in to get treatment, Azithromycin, at an affordable rate. This cat-antibiotic is successful in about 83% of infected cats and luckily was successful for our kitten.
If you are concerned about cat scratch fever, you should look into a pet insurance plan to get your cat a regular check-up at an affordable rate.
